Organic viticulture and sustainability

RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENTSustainability

ManagementGreen energy

Following the adoption of the environmental protection policy, we chose to install in the winery from Vadu Săpat a pellet plant assisted by solar panels and to collect separately the rainwater that we reused.

Harmony with natureProtecting the ecosystem

We try through our entire activity to minimize the carbon footprint of our company.

Because viticulture is an activity that has the potential to pollute the environment through the use of pesticides and herbicides, we are in the process of converting our vineyards to an organic approach.

SustainabilityOrganic viticulture

Vitis Metamorfosis obtained certification for the first organic vine crops in 2013 through the Austria Bio Garantie, after careful monitoring over three years. Austria Bio Garantie is one of the European leaders in environmental inspection and certification in agriculture.

ECO/BIO Wines

Out of love for nature, out of respect for the consumer!

The wine can only carry the ECO label if both the grapes and the vinification comply with European standards. The names ecological, bio, and organic are equivalent.

The quality of grapes obtained from eco plants is superior to conventional ones, and the wine obtained in this way is unique due to its organic properties.

How are ECO wines made?

The 15 ha of vineyards certified in 2013 as ecological have undergone a strict conversion process. This lasts 3 years, during which the vineyard is worked according to the eco norms, in order to give the plants and the ecosystem time to adapt. The first Eco Viile Metamorfosis wines were launched in 2014.

Only organic fertilizers (manure) are used in the vineyard and herbicides are banned because they remain in the soil and unbalance the ecosystem. The grass under the vines is removed mechanically or manually with a hoe.

In order to prevent manna and powdery mildew, only contact substances (sulfur and Bordeaux mixture) are used preventively. These do not penetrate the plant but protect against external pests. With these treatments, the vines should be sprayed often, at about 12 days, or after each rain. Also, if the disease has already set in, nothing can be done, the crop is lost.

Eco grapes are not harvested and processed on the same day as conventional grapes. This is an extra safety measure to ensure the purity of the must and the wine.

The eco vinification is done separately from the conventional one, in other vessels. Sulfite treatments are strictly regulated, with the quantities allowed in eco wines being half that of conventional wines.
